The Bott Family

Saturday, July 14 – Vernon NJ

Our next Dream Room Makeovers Family! Here is the Bott Family! Husband Jason, Mom, Jenifer, Matthew ( 9), Tyler ( 7 ½) and Emily (4 ½).
On October 25, 2007 Emily was born into the world, but it was a world she could not see. The moment she opened her they knew something was very wrong. Her eyes were clouded with a bluish grey haze that blocked her vision, she was blind. She was diagnosed with Peters Anomaly, an extremely rare eye disease that causes blindness. At the tender age of only 3 months old, Emily underwent the first of what would become many surgeries to help restore her eyesight. She was literally given the gift of sight through a cornea transplant in her right eye. At 5 months old, she had a second transplant in her left eye. Sadly she developed Pediatric Glaucoma and endured endless complications that lead to the rejection of the donor tissue and her transplants failed. Over the past 4 years she has undergone 19 surgeries, including valve implants in each eye to lower her eye pressure, a cataract removal and artificial lens implant and 2 additional corneal transplants to replace the corneas that rejected.

Please plan on helping us this day if you can!

The Nelson Family: Kim, Mary (9) and Sophia (8), Livingin Mahwah, NJ. Mary was born with a neurological disorder called Neurofibromatosis (NF). NF is a genetic and progressive disorder that disrupts cell growth in the nervous system, causing tumors to form on nerve tissue. These tumors can occur anywhere in the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and large and small nerves. Mary has developed an optic glioma (tumor on her optic nerves) as a result of her NF. It has severly impacted her vision. She has been undergoing chemotherapy since Febuary of 2010 in attempt to shrink the tumor. She will never regain full sight back, even if the tumor shrinks.

Their Story

I would like to introduce to you to the Willoughby-Hazel family. They will be the first family that Dream Room Makeovers will be helping. Here is their story.

Danielle Willoughby is a divorced mom with three beautiful children. The two youngest children Michael and Noelle have a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). This disease affects all muscles and brings upon weakness… throughout the entire body. Therefore, both of them are in wheelchairs and are unable to walk. The eldest daughter Hope is unaffected. This is something that they have accepted in their family. This can be challenging at times but Danielle really does not notice because she is their mother, and would do ANYTHING for them.
